Basic and Primitives Skills for Life

Outdoor Skill Building and Confidence Boosting

An Exciting Outdoors woods retreat for the whole family, where you discover and learn to explore differently.

Where we unplug from devices, life's stressors,  and give ourselves the freedom to be with nature  in a whole new way.

Nature takes us further than we could ever imagine.

Here we re-learn to "love to play outside", and do things that ignite our strength, courage, and confidence.

Three Workshops:

  • Foraging; edibles and medicinal plants
  • Basic & Primitive Land Navigation
  • Wilderness Outdoor Cooking Skills

Take all 3 workshops and fully immerse yourself off the grid and in the woods.

Or choose the workshop that is calling you the most.  See below for details on each workshop.

Stay the weekend and eat yummy foods, sleep in a cabin, or tent along the shore of the Mattawamkeag River.  When you stay the weekend you explore the woods more deeply.

Whatever you choose... CHOOSE to Re-Wild, and Re-Boot your Spirit for more Adventure in your life.

All 3 Workshop - Weekend Stays INCLUDE:

  • Meals and Lodging
  • Professional Instruction by Maine Guides
  • Waterproof pocket guide for Foraging for Wild Edible Foods
  • Map and compass manual and Waterproof pocket guide of Basic & Primitive Navigation
  • MOLC’s Wilderness Cooking Cookbook

Class run time: 9am to 5pm daily

AND,  if you're attending more than one workshop, you'll have time to fish, eat, enjoy old and new friends around the campfire.

Please dress and prepare for off-grid “Woods Living”, with all the comforts of home.

Skill Building Equipment List:

  • Notebook & Pen/Pencil
  • Reusable bags & container for collecting “Foraging” items.
  • Day Backpack
  • Compass: If you don’t have a compass we suggest: Any compass with 360 degrees and increments with at least 2 degrees, and a see-through bezel. Silva Models are great. The “Military Lensatic” compass is not sufficient and requires more work.

What Folk's are Saying:

"The Re-Wilding Weekend Retreat was Exceptional! I camped on the shores of the beautiful river with my daughter, attended 3 workshops, and shared meals with everyone. John and Tami are great hosts. They are incredibly experience and happy to share this knowledge and experience. The two are very gracious and attentive to any needs. They are also gifted in sharing their real-life stories. The meals are Gourmet! And they cook for all dietary needs too. It was the best outdoor cooking I’ve ever had!" - Shelene Shevchecko

“The course you put on was the best I have ever attended!

And I have been to quite a few. It will be forever etched in my mind.

The attention to detail, the enthusiasm, and the amount of knowledge imparted was remarkable.

The group was a large part of it. - loved them all.

The atmosphere was one of kindness and support. Thank you for being authentic and putting this course on.” - Campbell McLaren

"My husband and son attended the Wilderness Skill Building Weekend in late June. They had a fantastic time - loved the people, the activities and the food. My husband has a lot of wilderness skills and he learned a lot more. Greg did a great job teaching map and compass - from theory to practice. Tami and John (hosts) are wonderful, filled with great stories, sense of humor, fabulous chefs, and welcoming spirits.

We packed a lot into 2 days! Thanks so much!!!"

"Tami & John, Thank you both for a truly memorable time at the Maine Outdoor Learning Ctr.  We gained so much knowledge in foraging and land navigation and are truly inspired to learn more.  Our weekend in the Maine woods with you, our group and guides was a perfect fit to something we had been missing but hadn't realized.  It has changed us in ways large and small and we continue to apply what we learned to our daily lives.  Can't wait to come back again!

To all those reading: The positive energy created by hosts Tami & John really made for a fun, engaging and memorable camp experience between all the attendees.  We learned a lot, had a lot of laughs and left feeling like we had made new friends.  Plus the food was AMAZING!!"  - With hugs & gratitude, Keith & Jocelyn
