About Capt. John

John Rogers, Master Maine Guide and Avid Fisherman

John was born and raised in Freeport, Maine. His mom taught him to trout fish when he was just three years old, and his uncle taught him to fly fish at the age of nine. John has spent the majority of his life on the water fishing, teaching others how to fish, and guiding.  He became a Licensed Registered Maine Guide more than 30 years ago when he moved his family from Southern Maine to Northern Maine, where they lived off the grid for a period of 10 years, really living up close and personal with the woods and waters of Maine. John also became a US Coast Guard Captain and chartered for years as a snow bird in the Florida Keys.

Currently, John and his wife Tami live in two places, Lincolnville’s Mid-Coast Maine and on the Mattawamkeag River.

Together, they own Maine’s Outdoor Learning Center, a place where people gain confidence in their outdoor skills - Registered Maine Guide Training, Maine woods Camping Adventures, and Penobscot River Canoe Trips; since 1997.

Capt. John, a Master Maine Guide for over 30 years has guided THOUSANDS of fishing trips from Maine to the Florida Keys. His life Passion IS fishing! John has fished many great waters throughout the US, Canada, Scotland, England, Costa Rica, Alaska, the Exuma Islands, Turks & Caicos Island and many more, and looks forward to new yearly adventures.

John prides himself as being on both ends of the boat; as a client with a hired guide and as a Maine Guide with clients who has hired him. He fully resonates with purposeful insight to meet the client’s needs, along with knowing right where the fish are laying and when to make that cast.

Capt. John has led 100’s of fishing trips on the Penobscot River alone and 100’s more into remote trout ponds (only accessible via float plane), and other flat-water fisheries.

Being on both ends of the boat makes Capt. John one of Maine’s most knowledgeable guides.
